Just trying to explain the theory of how and why they work. The fuel injection control system significantly affects the fuel efficiency and emissions from the diesel engine of a commercial truck. Each time you let the rpm drop and get below 6800rpm the valve closes and it then has to rebuild pressure in 2ft of hose before it can reopen the valves. With solenoid control you have the computer reading what your throttle is doing and telling the solenoid what to do. They are doing exactly what your exhaust pressure is telling them to do. The reason that on/off throttle response improves is that engine pressure contolling the valves is instantanious with the valves capped. So they are likely opening around 55-6000rpm probably a 1/3 of the usable rpm. With the valve capped and I can only guess here, but your valves are functioning like the older 800's. This is roughly 2/3 of your usable rpm range that your motor has to run with a small port opening. With the solenoid in control of the valves they are being held closed until 68-7200rpm. Lets assume the usable rpm range of your sled is 4500-8250rpm. Clever in a way, but I don't feel it is a safe way of running your motor. Now they have an area that they can create a lean spot to pass epa regulations. By holding the valve closed they can begin to choke the motor as rpm increases. What I see Polaris doing with these sleds is taking advantage of that lowered port height. In most circumstances they were meant to open shortly after engagement. The variable exhaust valve system enhances low end performance by inherantly changing the exhaust port height. I do a lot of tree riding where much of the time the valves would not be open. The reason I did the modification was that I didn't agree with the amount of heat that the valve was retaining around the exhaust port. Engine response and accelleration have improved. My sled probably wasn't the best test mule as I had made a few changes all at once. On my sled the modification has been working flawlessly. Pink springs seem to be working very well, might even use yellow above 9000ft. The valves should be completely open at this time reguardless of how you are running them. Whether plugged or running off of solenoid control top end performance should remain the same.
